Workshop jointly organised by the Observatory, the World Meteorological Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization
During 3 to 6 December 2024, the Hong Kong Observatory cooperated with the International Civil Aviation Organization Asia and Pacific Office, to organise an international workshop on “Aviation Meteorological Science and Service Development” under the Voluntary Cooperation Programme of the World Meteorological Organization. The Observatory participates in Regional Working Group on Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System in the South China Sea Region
Senior Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory, Ms Lam Ching-chi, joined the Chinese delegation attending the Twelfth Meeting of the Regional Working Group on Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System in the South China Sea Region (WG-SCS) in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 7 to 8 November 2024. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the WG-SCS. (More……)

The Observatory participates in the Guangdong-Hong Kong inter-comparison on ambient gamma radiation measurement
The Guangdong-Hong Kong inter-comparison on ambient gamma radiation measurement, hosted by the China Institute of Atomic Energy, was conducted in Hong Kong from 18 to 20 November 2024. Experts from the Hong Kong Observatory, technical parties in Guangdong province, and the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau participated in the exercise. (More……)

Delegation from the Civil Aviation Administration of China visits the Observatory
Ms Liang Nan, Deputy Administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), led a delegation to the Hong Kong Observatory on 27 November 2024. During the visit, the delegation learnt about the Observatory’s facilities and the latest developments in aviation weather services, and reviewed the Observatory’s collaboration with the Air Traffic Management Bureau of CAAC in recent years. Members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Hong Kong Branch) visit the Observatory
More than 20 members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Hong Kong Branch paid a visit to the Hong Kong Observatory on 7 December 2024. Through technical talks, participants learnt about the causes and impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis, together with disaster prevention, as well as real-time tsunami monitoring and prediction techniques.
