The Observatory Jointly Organises a Workshop on Light Detection and Ranging with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Cheung Ping

The Observatory organised an online workshop on Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) under the Voluntary Cooperation Programme of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) with support from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to introduce LIDAR and its application in the detection of wind shear and turbulence at airports. This was held during 13–16 September 2022, with participation of more than 60 participants from the national meteorological or civil aviation agencies from 29 countries. The Observatory has long experience in using and applying LIDAR data, and is currently the WMO Measurement Lead Centre for Doppler LIDAR Systems for Aviation Applications.
