Plaque-Unveiling Ceremony for Hong Kong Station of National Standard Time and Joint Atomic Time

The Hong Kong Observatory and the National Time Service Center (NTSC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a plaque-unveiling ceremony for the Hong Kong Station of National Standard Time and Joint Atomic Time at the Observatory’s Headquarters on 28 May 2026. The ceremony was officiated by the Under Secretary for the Environment and Ecology, Miss Diane Wong; the Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Dr Chan Pak-wai; the Director of the NTSC, Dr Zhang Shougang; and Research Fellow of the NTSC, Dr Yuan Haibo.

The NTSC installed a passive hydrogen atomic clock and standard time transmission equipment for the Observatory, and established the first Hong Kong Station of National Standard Time and Joint Atomic Time, providing an accurate and stable national time source and jointly promoting the development of Joint Atomic Time, which is of historical significance.
