Rain-related projections of Hong Kong for the 21st century updated
Tse Wai-po
The Observatory used the climate model data from the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and adopted contemporary statistical methods to update the projections of the 20-year average of the annual number of days with rain and average rainfall intensity in Hong Kong in the 21st century. Under intermediate (SSP2-4.5) to very high (SSP5-8.5) greenhouse gas emissions scenarios, there is no significant trend in the annual number of days with rain in Hong Kong (Figure 1), but average rainfall intensity is expected to increase (Figure 2) throughout this century.
