The Observatory participates in United Nations Climate Change Conference

Lam Hok-yin

As members of the Chinese delegation, Hong Kong Observatory colleagues attended the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November 2024 in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to exchange views on issues such as strengthening international cooperation in response to extreme weather and the United Nation’s “Early Warning for All” initiative.

During the event, the Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Observatory organised a side event titled “Climate Action: From Climate Science to New Energy Development Opportunities”, on 13 November at the China Pavilion. Insights on climate science and opportunities to explore including the development of new energy and carbon footprint management solutions were shared. The event also publicised climate policies and actions to support our country’s efforts to combat climate change.
