High-level meeting with the China Meteorological Administration to commemorate 50 years of Beijing-Hong Kong meteorological telecommunications circuit

Lam Hok-yin

On 4 December 2025, Dr Bi Baogui, Deputy Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration, led a delegation to the HKO for a high-level meeting and a review of the 50 years of operation of the Beijing-Hong Kong meteorological circuit.

Through a short video, both parties reviewed the history and development of the dedicated link. The HKO established the Beijing-Hong Kong meteorological telecommunications circuit in 1975, and it officially commenced operation on 20 December that year, making the HKO the first Hong Kong government department to have a direct telecommunications link with a government unit in Beijing.

During the high-level meeting, in addition to reviewing the work progress over the past two years, both sides also conducted detailed exchanges on future cooperation projects.
