Environmental Radiation Monitoring Programme (ERMP)
In response to the construction of nuclear power stations at Daya Bay in Guangdong, the Hong Kong Observatory embarked the Environmental Radiation Monitoring Programme (ERMP) in 1987 to detect any long-term changes in environmental radiation levels in Hong Kong. The emphasis of ERMP is to monitor three major exposure pathways, namely the atmospheric, terrestrial and aquatic pathways, including direct measurement of ambient radiation levels in Hong Kong, artificial radioactive material in the environmental samples of Hong Kong and in foodstuff commonly consumed by people. The monitoring results of the ERMP are published in the respective annual reports and summaries.
