The Observatory Wins the Civil Service Enhancement Award Gold Prize

Editorial Board

The Observatory again gained recognition in the Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2022, winning the Gold Prize of the Departmental Service Enhancement Award (Small Department Category). This is the seventh time the Observatory has won this award, following 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2019. As indicated in the adjudicators’ comments, the Observatory has formulated a clear service strategy and a practical mechanism for reviewing and enhancing services. Through launching new and diverse services, the Observatory continuously strives to satisfy the needs of the public and various stakeholders. The adjudicators praised the service culture and dedication of colleagues in promoting public understanding of meteorology and raising public awareness of natural disaster prevention.

In addition, for the project “Centenary of the Bell - Revival of Bell Chiming of the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower”, the Observatory won the Meritorious Award of the Excellence in Partnership Award, together with Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Development Bureau and Architectural Services Department – fully demonstrating inter-departmental collaborative spirit.

The Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme is organised by the Civil Service Bureau on a biennial or triennial basis. The scheme aims to recognise the exceptional achievements of departments and teams in providing quality services; promote a citizen-centric culture in the civil service; encourage team spirit; inspire innovation; and share experiences in pioneering public service improvements.

Through science, innovation and partnerships, the Observatory keeps abreast of the times to provide people-oriented quality services in meteorology and related fields, with the aim of enhancing society’s capabilities in natural disaster prevention and response.
