1. Introduction
================

The software is designed to facilitate regular access by subscribers to email weather updates from the HKO.

This software will automatically check the user's email account regularly and retrieve the latest email warning message from HKO. When a new warning message is received, a window with audio alarm will be displayed to alert the user.

The software cannot be used with Government Office Automation (GOA) email accounts. (i.e. Lotus Notes/cc:Mail addresses)

 

2. Notice
==========

The HKO Email Warning Checker is supplied to subscribers to the HKO Email Weather Warning Service only. It must not be sold or be included in a product or package which intends to receive benefits through the inclusion of this software.

This software and the accompanying files are distributed "as is" without any warranty of any kind. Further, the author does not warrant, guarantee, or take any representations regarding the use, or the results of use, of the software or written materials in terms of correctness, accuracy, reliability, currentness or otherwise. The user must assume the entire risk of using this software.

 

3. System requirements
=======================

A PC with:

- Microsoft Windows 95/98/Millennium/NT/2000/XP (Chinese or English)

- Internet connection

- Web browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape)

- Sound card & speaker (for audio alarm)

 

4. Downloading the software
============================

1. Download the 'warn_checker.exe' file from HKO website "www.weather.gov.hk/software/download/" to your PC.
2. 'warn_checker.exe' is a self-extract zip file.

 

5. Installation
================

1. Run the downloaded file 'warn_checker.exe' by clicking it from the Windows Program Manager.
2. Follow the on-screen prompts to unzip all files in 'email_checker.exe' to your specified folder (default folder is "C:\temp\warn_checker\").
3. Run the installation program by clicking the setup.exe file from the specified folder.
4. During the installation procedure, you may be requested to restart Windows. If this happens, please run 'setup.exe' again after Windows restarts.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

 

6. Running the software
========================

Before using the software, please connect your PC to the Internet (through modem or any other means)

To run the HKO Automatic Email Warning Checker from the Start Menu:

1. Check the Start button on the Taskbar. The Start menu opens.
2. Choose Programs. The Programs folder opens.
3. Choose HKO Email Warning Checker. The HKO Email Warning Checker folder opens.
4. Click HKO Email Warning Checker.
5. For more detail on configuring and using the software, please refer to the online help.

 

7. Uninstalling the software
=============================

1. Open "Add/Remove programs" from the Windows Control Panel.
2. Select "HKO Automatic Email Warning Checker" from the program list.
3. Click "Add/Remove" button.
