The coldest January since 1977

January 2011 was the coldest January in Hong Kong since 1977.  For details, please see the Monthly Weather Summary for January 2011 available at:  http://www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/pastwx/mws201101.htm

Whilst the temperature of January 2011 is below normal, that of December 2010 is near normal. For the temperature in February 2011, the latest forecasts issued by a number of major climate prediction centres around the world, including forecasts generated by the Global-Regional Climate Model operated in-house by the Observatory, indicate that it is likely to be normal to above normal. Taking the above into consideration, the Hong Kong Observatory expects the average temperature of this winter (December 2010 - February 2011) to be normal to below normal and has revised its temperature forecast for this winter accordingly.
