Mercury Kew Barometer
Mercury Kew Barometer
Using a mercury column supported in a vertical glass tube to measure atmospheric pressure. The lower end of the mercury column was immersed in a receptacle containing a reservoir of mercury. An increase in atmospheric pressure caused the mercury level in the receptacle to fall and that in the tube to rise. The reading would be corrected for different temperatures by a look-up table.
