New Recruits of Hong Kong Voluntary Observing Ship
We welcome the following three container ships joining the fleet of the Hong Kong Voluntary Observing Ships (HKVOS) in the first half of 2023 to contribute marine weather observations:
ZIM Charleston |
Seaspan Ship Management Limited – Hong Kong (Seaspan) |
OOCL Norfolk |
Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (OOCL) |
OOCL Oakland |
Orient Overseas Container Line Limited (OOCL) |
The first shipborne Automatic Weather System (AWS) was successfully installed onboard “ZIM Charleston” by the end of March 2023 to continuously collect hourly meteorological data during her voyage (please see “The First Off-the-Shelf Automatic Weather Station installed onboard Hong Kong Voluntary Observing Ship”). Meanwhile, “OOCL Norfolk” offered assistance in the deployment of drifting buoy in the South China Sea in late June 2023 which provides valuable weather information for tropical cyclone monitoring over the region (please see “Deployment of Drifting Buoys in 2023”).
Heartful thanks to Seaspan and OOCL for their great support to the HKVOS Scheme!
