Observatory's new Tap Mun wind station is operational
6 July 2017
The Hong Kong Observatory has set up a new wind station on the southeastern side of Tap Mun. The station is located at a vantage point with very good exposure, making it very suitable for wind measurements. After a period of trial operation, the station is declared operational today (6 July). It replaces the old wind station on the rooftop of Tap Mun Police Post to provide more representative wind speed and wind direction information for the northeastern part of the territory and the waters near Mirs Bay. The latest wind observations from the new Tap Mun wind station can be accessed through the Observatory's "Regional Weather" webpage (http://www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/index_wind_e.htm) or its mobile version (http://www.weather.gov.hk/m/region.htm), or through the Observatory's "Dial-a-Weather" hotline at 187 8200. "MyObservatory", the smartphone weather service application, has also made available the real-time wind information of the new Tap Mun wind station.
