The eleventh issue of Online Quiz Games - Meteorological Satellite
10 August 2015
Meteorological satellites move around the Earth. Characterised by their orbits, they can be generally categorised into geostationary meteorological satellites and polar-orbiting meteorological satellites. Since their orbits are far above the surface of the Earth, meteorological satellites usually can monitor a much larger region as compared with weather radars. Besides, the working principle of meteorological satellites is also different from that of weather radars. Meteorological satellites normally depict various weather systems by detecting electromagnetic waves, such as visible light and infra-red rays, reflected by or emitted from the Earth’s surface. Weather forecasters will make use of satellite images in monitoring the development of tropical cyclones and other severe weather.
This issue of the quiz games will test your knowledge on meteorological satellites. Please come and play it on or before 23 August!
