When will be the Sun directly overhead again?

8 July 2016

Several weeks ago, many people were chasing the moment when the Sun was directly overhead. Hong Kong, a place between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, will have the sun directly overhead twice a year. If the weather is fine, the public will see the phenomenon again on 9 July, the second time this year.

Members of the public are welcome to make use of the newly launched webpage “Interactive Sun Path Diagram” ( http://www.hko.gov.hk/gts/astronomy/SunPathDay3_ue.htm ) to compute positions of the Sun for each minute between 12:25 and 12:30, 9 July to find the time when the Sun is nearest to being directly overhead at Hong Kong. This webpage also allows users to compute the position of the Sun with specified time and location.
