HKO website won the 2013 top 10 ".hk" website competition

The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) website won the 2013 top 10 ".hk" website competition and was awarded the gold prize for the "government departments" category. The HKO website once again won the top 10 ".hk" website competition after awarded the bronze price in 2010 and the gold price in 2011.

The top 10 ".hk" competition was organized by the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC), and was divided into the four categories, including "commercial", "non-commercial", "government departments" and "LegCo Members". The panel of judges evaluated the entries according to their overall design, functionality, engagement, use of social media and web accessibility. The HKO website was highly acclaimed by the panel of judges for its on-going development of new services and products on websites, meeting diversified needs of users in the local community.

In fact, the Observatory has been enhancing its online weather information service continuously to meet the needs of the public. A personalized version of the website was developed in recent years to allow users to customize contents on the weather website. Some services such as regional weather and tropical cyclone track adopt the geographical information system platform to make it easier to browse weather information. A brand new weather wizard was also launched with a range of popular services incorporated. The " MyObservatory " is one of the most popular weather app with more than 4 million copies downloaded (as at March 2014) since its launch.
