27 August 2008

About 160 citizens were attracted to the public lecture 'Weathering the Storms - Evolution of the Hong Kong Observatory' given by Mr Lam Chiu-ying, Director of Hong Kong Observatory, at the Lecture Hall of the Hong Kong Museum of History on 23 August (Saturday). The lecture was held in conjunction with the thematic exhibition 'Hong Kong Observatory - Weathering the Storms for 125 Years' (Note). In his typical pleasantry style, Mr Lam delineated how the Observatory as a scientific government department has evolved to cope with societal changes in the past century and told stories of key people in the history of the Observatory. The talk was well received with bursts of applause and laughter.
