The Observatory participated in inter-departmental drill for emergency response to flooding in Tai O

Chong Sze Ning

In the Contingency Plan for Natural Disasters, the Observatory is responsible for issuing warnings and publishing information related to bad weather – including storm surge warnings, so that relevant government departments and non-governmental organisations can coordinate and support evacuation, rescue and emergency response. Every year, the Observatory participates in the inter-departmental simulated rescue and evacuation drill for serious flooding in Tai O. This year’s drill was successfully conducted during sunshine and showers on 16 June, shortly before the passage of Typhoon Chaba at the beginning of July. Relevant departments, groups and residents revisited the emergency response arrangements and improved their ability to respond to severe flooding.
