In view of pandemic developments, the Hong Kong Observatory Open Day was held online for the first time this year. By simply visiting the “Hong Kong Observatory Open Day 2021” webpage, members of the public may take a virtual tour of the Observatory Headquarters, to learn about the Observatory’s work and services.

This year’s Open Day adopted the theme of this year’s World Meteorological Day – “The Ocean, Our Climate and Weather” – to remind the public how closely oceans, climate and weather are inter-related, and highlight the impact of global warming on oceans and weather. Members of the public could enjoy a diversified virtual visit experience through virtual tours, videos and interactive games on the webpage.

In addition, on 27 March, the Observatory held a live webcast on its webpage and Facebook page. The programme included a sand-painting performance on the topic of climate change and extreme weather, announcement of the results of the online polling campaign “2016-2020 Top 10 Mind-boggling Weather and Climate Events Selection”, and sharing of winners of the “Design Competition for Hong Kong Observatory Tide Gauge Station at Tai Po Kau, New Territories” on their designs and award-winning feelings.
