The Observatory's Windshear Work Further Recognized

An article titled "Windshear and turbulence alerting at Hong Kong International Airport" was recently published in the latest (October 2004) issue of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Bulletin – the official quarterly publication of WMO.

The October 2004 issue of the WMO Bulletin was dedicated to aeronautical meteorology. A contribution by invitation of WMO, the Observatory's article illustrates how "low-level wind shear at Hong Kong International Airport is addressed, using a combination of science, high-end technologies and user education", the Editor wrote. This is a second time the Observatory is invited to write on its windshear and turbulence work in internationally renowned journal, the last time being the article "Ongoing research in Hong Kong has led to improved wind shear and turbulence alerts" in the March 2003 issue of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Journal.

The WMO Bulletin article can be viewed on the Observatory's website at http://www.weather.gov.hk/en/publica/reprint/files/r566.pdf.
