Haze (19th August 2004)
On the morning of 19 August 2004, the air became obscure as light winds converged over the area between Hong Kong and Lantau Island. Visibility was at one time reduced to 550 metres (see attached map). Note the disappearance of Hong Kong Island in the photo sequence on the right.
Visibility reduction occurs in Hong Kong often when winds are light. The background wind that day was northerly, which tended to make conditions worse.
