Thunderstorms -- their development and dissipation (4th August 2004)

The photo sequence (left) shows very rapid upward motion of moist air on the right, producing clouds that obscured the sky. Thunderstorms were reported in Hong Kong.

The weather on 4 August 2004 was characterized by a broad trough of low pressure lying over south China, which brought unsettled weather. The winds that day were light. This was borne out by the weather radar sequence (right), which show radar echoes moving only very little during the course of thunderstorm development.
