Backward Trajectory Map in December 2012

In December 2012, the air masses reaching Hong Kong mainly originated from the northeast, north and northwest, indicating that the territory was under the influence of the winter monsoon most of the time. A considerable amount of them passed over the coastal waters of southeastern China before arriving Hong Kong, bringing more moisture to the territory.

By using computer model analyses, the past 72-hour backward trajectory of the air mass reaching Hong Kong is estimated by the Observatory on a daily basis. The daily trajectories are compiled into the Monthly Backward Trajectory Map. The Monthly Map for December 2012 is now available on the following webpage:
