Automatic weather station for the Wong Tai Sin District opened
(27 March 2009)
An automatic weather station for the Wong Tai Sin District was officially opened today (March 27).
Officiating at the opening were Chairman of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, Mr Li Tak-hong; Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Lam Chiu-ying; District Officer of the Wong Tai Sin District, Mrs Teresa Wong; and District Leisure Manager of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Ms Yau Lai-sze.
From today, the public can access the latest temperature information in Wong Tai Sin District by a variety of means, including the Observatory's website and Dial-a-Weather service. The new weather station is located at the Nan Lian Garden in Diamond Hill.
Mr Lam said, "The setting up of the weather station at the Nan Lian Garden under the Observatory's 'One District One Station' initiative would not have been possible without the support and co-operation of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Chi Lin Nunnery. Through this initiative, it is hoped to enhance co-operation between the Observatory and the district communities, and allow more comprehensive weather information to be provided to meet public needs."
Mr Li was pleased to see the successful progress of the Observatory's 'One District One Station' initiative, and welcomed the establishment of the automatic weather station in Wong Tai Sin District.
Mrs Wong said that with a population of more than 420,000 in Wong Tai Sin District and cultural and scenic places such as the Wong Tai Sin Temple and the Nan Lian Garden, the temperature information from the new weather station would enable citizens to keep abreast of local weather conditions.
Ms Yau said, "We are delighted to see the establishment of the weather station at the Nan Lian Garden. The temperature information from the station is very useful to those visiting the garden."
The automatic weather station for the Wong Tai Sin District provides the latest temperature readings round-the-clock. The public can access the information from the Observatory's "Regional Weather" webpage (http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/display_graph_e.htm?wts&menu=otherwxi&rwx&addbar ) or PDA webpage (http://pda.hko.gov.hk/regione_wts.htm ).
