Weather anytime, anywhere for people on the move
Weather anytime, anywhere for people on the move
(5 June 2008)
Two weather tools specially designed for mobile phones were released by the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) today (June 5), for people to keep weather information in hand at anytime and from anywhere. The weather tools are the "Satellite and Radar Animation Sequences" and "Weather Banner" for personal digital assistants (PDA) and smartphones with Internet connection and multimedia capabilities. People can visit HKO's website to view and download the weather information and software: http://pda.hko.gov.hk/fy2ce.htm http://pda.hko.gov.hk/rade.htm http://www.hko.gov.hk/en/wxinfo/wxbanner/wxbanner.htm Satellite and radar animation sequences enable users on the move to visualise the movement of weather systems by observing the progress of associated cloud cover or rain bands. This will help them decide whether to continue or halt weather sensitive business or leisure activities. "Weather Banner" is a small software plug-in for PDAs and smartphones to show the latest weather warning, air temperature and relative humidity, local area forecast and five-day weather forecasts. These tools put the latest weather information at people's finger tips even when they are on the street. ![]() Radar animation sequence showing a band of heavy rain approaching Hong Kong |
