(11 April 2008)
The Chairman of the Kowloon City District Council, Ir Wong Kwok-keung, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Lam Chiu-ying, and Acting District Officer of Kowloon City District, Ms Kwan Hiu-yeung, jointly officiated at the opening of the automatic weather station for Kowloon City District today (April 11). The public can now access the latest temperature information in the district by a variety of means, including the observatory's website and Dial-a-Weather service. The new weather station is located at the Lok Fu Service Reservoir Garden.
Ir Wong welcomed the establishment of the automatic weather station in the district. "Kowloon City District has the highest concentration of schools in the territory and has major recreational facilities such as the Ko Shan Theatre and the Kowloon Tsai Park-cum-Swimming Pool. Temperature information from the new station will enable visitors and various schools in the district to keep abreast of the latest weather here", he said.
Mr Lam said, "The automatic weather station for Kowloon City District is the first new station established in Kowloon under the observatory's 'One District One Station' programme. The programme will continue to expand, aiming to install at least one weather station providing temperature readings in each of Hong Kong's 18 districts. Through this programme, it is hoped to enhance co-operation between the observatory and district communities, and allow more comprehensive weather information to be provided to meet public needs."
Ms Kwan said, "I am very pleased to see further development of the observatory's 'One District One Station' programme. The Kowloon City District Office will continue to actively support the improvement of various government services in the district."
