Cold weather persists in the next few days
(29 January 2008)
The Hong Kong Observatory expects that the winter monsoon and rainy weather will continue to affect the south China coastal areas in the next few days. Covered by thick and dense clouds, there is little rise in the temperature of the cold air. Cold weather will persist in Hong Kong in the next few days. The Cold Weather Warning remains in force and people are advised to put on warm clothes. According to a joint study by the Hong Kong Observatory and the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association, the number of users hospitalised after pressing the Personal Emergency Link Service (PE-Link) during cold days (temperatures below 12 degrees) is higher than that of normal days by more than 10%. The Observatory therefore call upon citizens to call or visit elderly persons or people with chronic medical conditions staying alone and to check if they need any assistance.
