HKO's Calendar 2008 is on sale
(29 October 2007)
The "Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2008" has been published. The cover of the calendar shows Victoria Harbour at sunset with an amazing array of brilliant lights encased in clusters of glassy towers, showing the metropolis of Hong Kong as a mesmerising sight. The Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Lam Chiu-ying said that while Hong Kong was famous for closely packed skyscrapers, it had a vast countryside endowed with breathtaking views, just minutes from the city centre. "It is a city where modern civilisation meets Nature head on. We invite readers to enjoy seeing with their own eyes the co-existence and integration of these contrasting components in our city. We encourage all to contemplate how we should live our lives in the modern city, to make sure that we will not cause more climatic change or more haziness in the sky. Only then will we be able to preserve these beautiful scenes and to ensure the harmonious co-existence of Nature and humans in the centuries to come." The "Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2008" contains useful climatological and astronomical information including monthly climatological information of Hong Kong, rising/setting times of the sun and moon as well as tide. Telephone numbers and websites to get other weather and geophysical information are also listed. At only $52 a copy, the calendar would make an excellent gift to friends and relatives for Christmas and the New Year. It is now on sale at the Hong Kong Observatory Resource Centre, the Kowloon Map Publications Centre of the Lands Department, the Publications Sales Unit of the Information Services Department, General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tuen Mun Central Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office. Electronic book-ordering service is also available at the online Government Bookstore at http://bookstore.esdlife.com/eng/default.asp.
