Temperature information of Central and Western available to public
(4 September 2007)

With the opening of the automatic weather station for the Central and Western District at Hong Kong Park today (September 4), people can now access the temperature information of the district from a variety of means including the Observatory's website and the "Dial-a-Weather" System.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the weather station, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Lam Chiu-ying, said the automatic weather station for the Central and Western District was part of the Observatory's "One District One Station" initiative. "We aim to have at least one weather station providing temperature readings at each of Hong Kong's 18 districts. Through this project, it is hoped that co-operation with the district communities can be enhanced, allowing more comprehensive weather information to be provided to meet the needs of the public."

Chairman of the Central and Western District Council, Mr Chan Tak-chor, welcomed the establishment of the automatic weather station in the district, saying the Central and Western District was the political, commercial and financial centre of Hong Kong with vibrant business activities. "Temperature information from the new weather station will enable the public to beware of the weather conditions in the district."

The weather station at Hong Kong Park has been set up with the full support and co-operation of the Central and Western District Council and Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

The automatic weather station at the Central and Western District provides the latest temperature readings round-the-clock. The public can access the information from the Observatory's "Regional Weather" webpage at:
