Very Hot Weather Warning

Under the dominance of the subtropical ridge, the weather was sunny and very hot today (3 August, Friday). The Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3 degrees in the afternoon, the highest so far this year. Meanwhile, the Very Hot Weather Warning that was issued in the afternoon of 24 July 2007 has already been in force for more than 10 days.

The very hot conditions are expected to persist tomorrow with a maximum temperature of about 34 degrees in Hong Kong. The public are advised that the risk of heatstroke is high.

Members of the public who need to work outdoors or engage in outdoor activities tomorrow should drink plenty of water and avoid over exertion. If not feeling well, take a rest in the shade or cooler place as soon as possible. Avoid prolonged exposure under sunlight. Loose clothing, suitable hats and UV-absorbing sunglasses can reduce the chance of sunburn by solar ultraviolet radiation.
