Very Hot Weather Warning
(27 July 2007)

It remains very hot in Hong Kong today (27 July, Friday). The Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees in the afternoon, the highest so far this year. Temperature at Sheung Shui rose even higher to 35 degrees. The Very Hot Weather Warning remains in force.

It is forecast that the weather in Hong Kong will continue to be very hot over the weekend, with a maximum temperature of 33 degrees. Furthermore, the winds will be light. The public are advised that the risk of heatstroke is high.

Members of the public who need to work outdoors or engage in outdoor activities over the weekend should drink plenty of water and avoid over exertion. If not feeling well, take a rest in the shade or cooler place as soon as possible. Avoid prolonged exposure under sunlight. Loose clothing, suitable hats and UV-absorbing sunglasses can reduce the chance of sunburn by solar ultraviolet radiation.

Members of the public who wish to get more information on the prevention of heat stroke can call the hotline (2833 0111) of the Central Health Education Unit of the Department of Health (DH). Information can also be obtained from DH's health educational homepage at http://www.cheu.gov.hk and click "What's New" to obtain a relevant fact sheet.
