The Observatory apologizes for the inadvertent issuance of the Tsunami Warning on 3 April 2007

A statement indicating that the Tsunami Warning was in force was inadvertently included in the "Hourly Readings" weather bulletin disseminated at 12:02 p.m. on 3 April 2007. The Hong Kong Observatory rectified the weather bulletin at 12:20 p.m. and issued an apology announcement through the media at 14:40 p.m. that day.

The incident was caused by an inadvertent error during the manual preparation of the particular weather bulletin. After an initial review of the relevant work procedure, the Observatory has modified the computer program to ensure that such incident will not recur in future. The working procedure will be further studied to identify any area of improvement and appropriate measure(s) will be implemented as soon as possible.
