The First Cold Weather Warning Issued in April
The First Cold Weather Warning Issued in April
(4 April 2007)
Under the influence of a replenishment of the northeast monsoon and rainy weather condition, the weather today (4 April) in Hong Kong was cold with morning temperature at the Hong Kong Observatory dropping to a minimum of 12.3 degrees. Minimum temperatures of other places are given in Figure 1 and Table 1. The Observatory issued the Cold Weather Warning last night (3 April) to remind the public that the cold weather might cause adverse health effects. This was the first Cold Weather Warning issued in April since its introduction in 1999.
The minimum temperature recorded at the Observatory this morning ranked as the 18th lowest in April since record began in 1885. The lowest minimum temperature ever recorded in April was 9.9 degrees on 5 April 1969.
Local temperatures will gradually rise under the influence of an easterly airstream in the next couple of days. The weather will remain cloudy with a few rain patches during the Ching Ming Festival and the Easter holidays.
