Very Hot Weather Warning

Under the influence of the outer subsiding air of Severe Tropical Storm Bilis, it was very hot over southern China today (13 July 2006). Temperatures rose above 33 degrees in most parts of Hong Kong this afternoon. The maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory was 34.0 degrees, the highest so far this year. Temperatures at Chek Lap Kok, Tuen Mun, Sha Tin and Sai Kung even reached 36 degrees. A map showing the maximum temperatures over various parts of Hong Kong today is given below.

As Bilis gradually moves towards the southeastern part of China, its outer rain bands will begin to affect the coastal areas of Guangdong. The weather in Hong Kong will deteriorate tomorrow (14 July 2006) and the very hot weather is expected to cease then.
