Deadline for "Science in the Public Service" essay competition nearing
(29 June 2006)

Entries for the essay competition of the "Science in the Public Service" Campaign will close on July 14.

Prizes for each of the four groups (Junior Chinese, Adult Chinese, Junior English and Adult English) include trophies and book coupons. The total value of the book coupons is more than $10,000. Prize-winners may be invited to attend an awards ceremony and a lunch with renowned scientists.

The essay competition is aimed at increasing the understanding of the public and students in the application of science and technology in the provision of public service in Hong Kong. It will also enhance their abilities to explore and their quest of knowledge. There is no restriction to the essay title, but the contents must relate to science and technology and their applications in the public service.

The essay competition is one of the major events of the "Science in the Public Service" Campaign. Inaugurated in January, 2006, by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang at the Central Library, the campaign will last for one year (January-December 2006). It is jointly held by government departments and is aimed at letting people know more about their scientific achievements and the application of science and technology in providing services. Activities in the campaign include a joint exhibition, scientific talks and visits to departmental facilities, school talks and exhibits on loan, a symposium and a radio programme.
