Official Opening of the Automatic Weather Station at the Hong Kong Wetland Park

Official Opening of the Automatic Weather Station at the Hong Kong Wetland Park
(19 May 2006)

The Hong Kong Observatory and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department jointly built an automatic weather station at the Hong Kong Wetland Park to provide weather information around the Park to the public and visitors. To tie in with the opening of the Hong Kong Wetland Park, the station entered into full operation on 19 May 2006. The station's weather information is also available to the public through the Observatory's website.

The automatic weather station provides round-the-clock air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction and speed, atmospheric pressure and rainfall. It is also equipped with a network camera to produce real-time weather photos of the Park. The public may make use of this information to plan their activities according to the latest weather conditions.

The Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Ms Clara Chong, welcomed the provision of the Wetland Park's weather information on the Hong Kong Observatory website. 'By providing online weather information and real-time photographs of the Park, the new weather station will greatly assist visitors in planning and arranging their journeys. Thus ensuring that they make the most of their time in Hong Kong,' she said.

'The service complements similar information offered by the Observatory for other major tourism sites in Hong Kong. Our DiscoverHongKong.com web site currently carries weather forecasts issued by the Observatory. The new information is a valuable addition to its services,' she continued.

Mr. Edmond Lam, General Manager of the Hong Kong Wetland Park, said, 'We are very pleased about our co-operation with the Observatory to install an automatic weather station at the Hong Kong Wetland Park. The data collected will be invaluable to the study of ecology of wetlands.'
