Haze on 19 August 2004

Hong Kong remained hazy today (Thursday, 19 August 2004). Visibility for part of the territory had been rather low.

Light winds prevailed over Hong Kong this morning. Around 5 to 7 a.m., the light winds converged over the area between Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island and Ma Wan. As a result, visibility for that area dropped to the lowest value of 550 metres (see attached map). After about 9 a.m., winds over Hong Kong changed to a more uniform flow from the north and visibility gradually climbed above 2 km in general.

Light winds conditions are expected for tomorrow and visibility will continue to remain on the low side.
