Haze on 18 August 2004

Haze on 18 August 2004 (18 August 2004)

It was hazy in Hong Kong today (Wednesday, 18 August 2004) with visibility over parts of the territory falling below 2000 metres (see Table 1).

Under the combined effect of the anticyclone over China and Typhoon Megi over the East China Sea, light winds from the west prevails over Hong Kong today (18 August 2004). Thus, suspended particulates in the air could not be easily dispersed. This resulted in the development of haze in the territory and therefore the observed low visibility.

It is expected that hot and hazy conditions will persist tomorrow (19 August 2004), but moderate easterly winds will set in on Friday (20 August 2004). Visibility will improve by then.
