The Very Hot Weather on 10 August 2004

Under the influence of the subsiding air outside Severe Tropical Storm Rananim, it was sunny, hazy and very hot over southern China today (10 August 2004). Temperatures rose to 34 degrees or above over most parts of the territory. The maximum temperature recorded at the Observatory this afternoon was 33.9 degrees. Temperatures at Chek Lap Kok and parts of Sai Kung even reached 36.8 degrees. A map showing the maximum temperatures over various parts of Hong Kong today is given below.

The weather is expected to remain very hot tomorrow (11 August 2004). The maximum temperature in the urban areas will be about 33 degrees and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. The risk of heatstroke is high.
