More weather information about local popular tourist spots (12 July 2004)
To enhance its weather information service, the Hong Kong Observatory has recently included on its "regional weather" website the temperature readings for three more tourist spots in Hong Kong - Stanley, Sheung Shui and Pak Tam Chung. The Stanley Market and the open-air market at Sheung Shui are very popular tourist spots. The information on Pak Tam Chung indicates weather conditions at Sai Kung Country Park, which is widely known as the back garden of Hong Kong and frequented by eco-tourism lovers. Information on the website is updated every 10 minutes. Time series for the past 24 hours are also available. The Executive Director of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, Mr Joseph Tung, said: "The Observatory's regional weather website has always been a great help to the tourism industry. It has already been providing weather information for many tourist spots including the Peak and Po Lin Monastery. Inclusion of weather information about Stanley, Sheung Shui and Pak Tam Chung will serve the industry even better." The Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Ms Clara Chong, said the Observatory's addition of popular tourist spots in its weather information service was more than simply giving visitors the latest information and better services, thereby making their stay enjoyable. "The positive attitude in continuously enhancing its IT capability also strengthens Hong Kong's cosmopolitan image and helps further promote Hong Kong as the world's premier destination," Ms Chong said.
