"Weathering the Storm - Hong Kong Observatory and Social Development" is now on sale (24 March 2004)

The bilingual book "Weathering the Storm" written in both Chinese and English is now on sale. Commissioned by the Hong Kong Observatory and written by Professor Ho Pui-yin of the History Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the book chronicles the impact of weather on the community of Hong Kong and the evolution of the weather services.

Throughout the one hundred and twenty years since its establishment, the Observatory has continuously introduced new services to keep pace with the needs of the society. This book tells the story of how generations of Observatory staff apply available science and technology in that endeavour.

With 364 pages, some 200 rare and interesting photographs and full documentation of the sources of materials used to write the book, this bilingual book is ideal for both leisure reading as well as for someone with an academic interest in the history of Hong Kong.

The book is now on sale at HK$160 a copy at the Hong Kong Observatory Resource Centre (Tel : 29268250). It is also available at major book stores.
