The Hong Kong Observatory is about to launch a new paid service on the provision of weather bulletins in eXtensible Markup Language (XML). The service enables automated retrieval of weather information through computer systems. XML is a new generation of computer language format specially designed for data exchange between computer systems. It facilitates users to develop programs to ingest weather information into their application systems in accordance with their own needs. The weather elements can then be freely distributed and used within their companies or organizations. The service will be officially launched tomorrow ( November 1 ). The annual fee will be $3,310.
