The Red Rainstorm Warning Signal issued by the Hong Kong Observatory this morning is the latest Red Rainstorm Warning in a year since the operation of the Rainstorm Warning System in 1992. The heavy rain this morning was caused by an unstable and moist airstream. More than 100 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over the northern part of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Tseung Kwan O and Sai Kung. The rain was heaviest in Kwun Tong and Clear Water Bay where more than 200 millimetres of rainfall were registered. The rainfall distribution for today was rather uneven, with less than 10 millimetres of rain in the northern part of the New Territories. The effective time of the warning signals is summarized as follows: Yellow Rainstorm Warning: 9:57 am to 10:35 am The second latest date for the issuance of Red Rainstorm Warning Signal in a year is 6 October in 1995.
