An Isolated Thunderstorm at the Airport

An Isolated Thunderstorm at the Airport (14 July 2002)

An isolated thunderstorm developed over the western part of the Hong Kong International Airport early this morning (14 July). Lightning with thunder was reported by the observer of the Hong Kong Observatory between 2:52 am and 3:07 am. The Airport Meteorological Office issued an aerodrome warning on squally thunderstorms at 2:05 am.

The thunderstorm moved northwestwards into the sea after 3:00 am. No other place of the territory was affected by this isolated and short-lived thunderstorm. Therefore a territory-wide thunderstorm warning was not necessary.

0.4 millimetre of rainfall was recorded at the airport between 2:30 am and 3:30 am.
