Rainfall Information for Guangdong and Adjacent Areas (9 July 2002)

Starting tomorrow (July 10), rainfall information for Guangdong and adjacent areas will be made available to the public through the Hong Kong Observatory website.

In response to the growing interest of the public on droughts and floods in Guangdong and adjacent areas, the Hong Kong Observatory will launch new web pages to provide rainfall information for 11 cities in the area. These cities include Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, Shantou, Shanwei, Heyuan, Shaoguan, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang, Haikou and Xiamen.

Rainfall data for cities in the mainland is provided by the National Meteorological Centre of the China Meteorological Administration, while rainfall data for Macao is provided by the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau.

The web pages provide the following information for the 11 cities :

1. 24-hour rainfall distribution maps (Figure 1) and data in table form for the past 10 days; and

2. monthly rainfall distribution maps, monthly rainfall data and monthly normal rainfall in table form. (Figure 2).
