"Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2002" is now on sale

"Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2002" is now on sale (27 November 2001)

The Hong Kong Observatory Calendar 2002 is now available for sale to the public. The theme of the Calendar is "Reducing Vulnerability to Weather and Climate Extremes". It is the same as the theme of the World Meteorological Day on 23 March 2002 adopted by the World Meteorological Organization.

Weather and climate extremes pose serious threats to life, property and the economy. The Hong Kong Observatory operates a wide range of warnings on severe weather, including tropical cyclones, rainstorms, thunderstorms, landslip, flooding, strong monsoon, fire danger, cold and very hot weather. Weather forecasts and warnings are disseminated to the public in a timely manner to alert the public to make appropriate precautionary measures to protect their life and property and minimize disruption to economic and social activities.

The calendar contains useful geophysical information such as rising/setting times of the sun and moon, tide and monthly climatological normals and extremes. Telephone numbers and web-sites for enquiries on weather and other geophysical information are also listed in the calendar.

This beautifully printed and attractively presented calendar would be an excellent gift to friends and relatives for Christmas and the New Year. The calendar is now on sale at HK$32 a copy at the Government Publications Centre (Tel : 2537 1910) and the Hong Kong Observatory Resource Centre (Tel : 2926 8250).
