The Hong Kong Observatory enhances the dissemination of Weather Forecasts of Guangdong Cities

The Hong Kong Observatory enhances the dissemination of Weather Forecasts of Guangdong Cities (3 September 2001)

With effect from tomorrow (September 4), the Hong Kong Observatory will disseminate weather forecasts of Guangdong cities twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. The weather forecasts will be provided by the Guangzhou Central Meteorological Observatory.

An Observatory spokesman said, "as more Hong Kong people travel to the Guangdong for work and pleasure, the need for weather information on Guangdong cities has increased. The Observatory has decided to enhance the dissemination of weather information from Guangdong."

The Hong Kong Observatory currently releases to the public the weather and temperature forecasts of 21 cities in Guangdong once a day at 7:45 a.m. every morning. With effect from 4 September, such information will be released half an hour earlier at 7:15 a.m., and a new round of forecasts will be released at 6:30 p.m.

The Observatory spokesman said that the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau had given strong support to this enhancement of service, which signified closer technical cooperation between Hong Kong and Guangdong.

The public can access the information by looking up "Weather Forecast for Guangdong" on the Observatory's web page (http://www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/climat/gdfc.htm), or by calling the Observatory's Telephone Information Enquiry System at 2926 1133 with a tone dial phone and selecting channel "211" after choosing the required language.
