Second Wettest Tuen Ng Festival (25 June 2001)

Today (25 June 2001) is the second wettest Tuen Ng Festival since record began in 1884. More than 100 mm of rainfall were recorded at the Hong Kong Observatory. The highest record of 145 millimetres for Tuen Ng Festival was recorded in 1948. More than 80 millimetres of rainfall fell over the urban areas today (25 June 2001) while the rainfall at Tai Po and Ma On Shan exceeded 120 mm. Rainfall distribution in Hong Kong from midnight to 9:00 pm 25 June 2001 Up to 9 p.m., the effective time of the warning signals is summarised as follows : Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal: issued at 6:05 p.m. Thunderstorm Warning: issued at 4:45 p.m. An active trough of low pressure brought unsettled weather to South China today (25 June 2001). It is expected that this active trough of low pressure would affect the coastal areas of South China in the next couple of days. However, a ridge of high pressure over the western Pacific would extend westwards and is expected to bring fine weather to Hong Kong during the latter part of the week.
