Cessation of hoisting tropical cyclone and strong monsoon signals at Lau Fau Shan signal station

With effect from April 21, 2001, tropical cyclone and strong monsoon signals will no longer be hoisted at the signal station at Lau Fau Shan.

With the advance of communication technology, weather information supplied by the Hong Kong Observatory such as signal status, weather conditions associated with squally thunderstorms brought by tropical cyclones, movement of tropical cyclones, possibility of hoisting higher signals and necessary precautions can be readily obtained via broadcast from radio and television, the Observatory's Dial-a-Weather service (at 1878 200 in Cantonese, at 1878 202 in Putonghua and at 1878 066 in English) and homepage (http://www.weather.gov.hk).
