A new look of the lightning location information webpage

The Observatory recently developed a new lightning location information webpage with more geographical references and enhanced browsing functions. The user-friendly features will enable members of the public to identify the location of lightning more easily. The trial version of the new webpage can be accessed through the link at the top right corner of the current lightning location webpage, or by visiting http://www.weather.gov.hk/wxinfo/llis/gis.htm directly.

In this new version, the map is larger in size with more geographical overlays such as swimming pools, country parks and contours. The enhanced panning and zooming functions help the user focus on his/her area of interest more quickly. When the "Area Statistics" button is selected, the number of lightning strokes detected within the area of interest will be calculated. A further additional feature involves the overlaying of radar picture on the lightning map, through a simple click.
